Start on iPhone

The iPhone app is not a replacement for the Mac. It is the remote surface for the Codex environment you already use on the Mac, so you can keep going while away from your desk or moving around.

For the current distribution status and the install path, start with Get the iPhone App.

If you already know Codex well on the Mac, there is not much new to learn on iPhone. Once you add one Host, you can open a Project, read a Thread, send a quick follow-up, and do light switches without going back to the Mac.

For now, CodexPocket assumes the iPhone and Mac are on the same local network. If the Mac side is not ready yet, check Start on Mac. If you want the detailed network conditions, see Network Requirements.

Common things to do on iPhone

  • open an active Thread and read the Answer and Work Log
  • send a short follow-up or course correction from Composer
  • check the local branches for the current workspace from Branch Switcher
  • use Exec for one one-shot instruction
  • jump back to recent workspaces from Home and Projects

Things worth knowing first

  • the iPhone does not hold the repository; the real work still happens in Codex and the workspace on the Mac
  • even if the iPhone-side connection drops, the work on the Mac may keep running
  • for the first setup, CodexPocketMac and Bridge need to be ready on the Mac

Main screens in the app

  • Home The entry point for the default Host, recent projects, and the thread you were last using.
  • Sidebar The place to open Projects, Hosts, and Settings. You can also return here from an open thread.
  • Projects The list where you choose the workspace you want.
  • Hosts The place to add the Mac, run Connection Test, and retry setup.
  • Settings The place to change language, theme, font size, and connection-related options.

The first flow

  1. Get the iPhone app.
  2. On first launch, check permissions and display settings.
  3. Use Add from QR on the empty screen, or open Hosts from the sidebar and scan the Mac QR code.
  4. Wait for the first Host setup to finish.
  5. Open a Project and continue a Thread.

The only two ideas you really need at the beginning are Hosts and Projects. The rest of the thread flow becomes familiar naturally after the Host is added.
